SermonWise AI — Help

Canonical copy for the customer-facing help page rendered at sermonwise.ai/help. The actual page source lives in the churchwiseai-web repo at src/app/sermons/help/page.tsx; this document is the source of truth the page is derived from.

When customer language changes here, update the page within the same PR (or vice versa). The /ensure-solid sermonwise scorecard dim-5 check depends on this file existing at help_surface.canonical_source per knowledge/readiness/sermonwise.yaml.

Getting started

SermonWise is a web app — no install, no download. Sign up at sermonwise.ai/signup with an email and password, or one-click with Google. The onboarding flow asks for a default theological tradition so the first outline reflects your church's doctrine.

Usage resets on the first of each month. Annual billing saves about 17% (pay for 10 months, get 12).

Generating a sermon outline

  1. In the app, click New sermon. Enter scripture passage, working title (optional), audience.
  2. Pick your tradition — default set during onboarding; override per sermon if guest preaching. 17 supported (Reformed, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Anglican, Pentecostal, Catholic, Orthodox, Presbyterian, Church of Christ, Assemblies of God, Seventh-Day Adventist, AME, Mennonite, CMA, non-denominational, universal evangelical).
  3. Pick a sermon method (expository, topical, narrative, etc.). Each method adapts per tradition.
  4. Generate. 20-40 seconds. Output: main points, curated illustrations, closing application, cross-references.
  5. Edit inline. Outline is a starting point, not a script.

What makes the output different from generic AI

SermonWise injects tradition-specific vocabulary, hermeneutic principles, and application style into every generation. Illustrations and cross-references come from a curated library of 290,000+ theological resources (not invented). If ChatGPT has produced sermons that sounded vaguely Protestant-flat, this is the gap we close.

Managing your subscription

Click Manage Subscription in the app header (top right) to open the Stripe Customer Portal. From there:

  • Switch monthly ↔ annual
  • Update payment method
  • Download past invoices
  • Cancel (effective at end of current billing period)

Cancellation policy: Pro access continues through the end of the current period. Past sermons stay in the library forever — never deleted.

Billing & receipts

Every charge triggers an automated Stripe receipt to the email on file. To pull historical receipts: open Stripe Customer Portal → click the invoice line. Annual subscribers get one receipt per year.

Tax receipts addressed to a church (not an individual): email hello@churchwiseai.com — we re-issue.

Theological traditions

SermonWise supports 17 traditions + a broad-evangelical universal lens. Each has its own vocabulary mappings, hermeneutic principles, and application patterns. We don't invent doctrine — we reflect what the tradition already says.

Missing tradition? Email hello@churchwiseai.com. We've added traditions on request before, usually within a few weeks.

Troubleshooting

Generation fails or times out

Retry once. If the second attempt also fails, upstream LLM at capacity — wait 2-3 minutes. Quota only consumed on success, so failures don't cost a slot.

Used 2 free outlines, want more before committing

Start a Pro trial — 14 days free, no charge until day 15.

Output doesn't sound like my tradition

Check the tradition dropdown on the generation form. Default from onboarding can drift if you've tested others. If the tradition is right and output still feels off: email us the sermon ID + passage; we tune lenses against real examples.

Can't log in after signing up with Google

Try email/password login with a password reset first. Once a password is set, the Google button works on every subsequent visit.

Still stuck

hello@churchwiseai.com — one-business-day response. Include account email + sermon ID if generation-related.
